Forthcoming exams

Thank you to everyone who’s booked exams. To help you with your exam arrangements at this exceptionally busy time, please remember that there are a number of services available to you by logging in to your ABRSM account:

Self-service options through your online account:

  • Viewing your confirmed exam details
  • Making late bookings for Performance Grade exams (subject to availability)
  • Rescheduling a Performance Grade exam within the current exam session only (subject to availability and up to 48 hours before the date of your exam). Exams cannot be moved or transferred to the next exam session.
  • Checking availability for late bookings and rescheduling. You can view available slots online without logging in or making a booking.

For all of the above, we cannot help you directly if you contact us and logging in to your account allows you to manage your exam booking.

Late booking is available for Session 5 (May) 2021 Performance Grade exams until 21 May 2021.

How to book

Face-to-face practical exams and Grade 6 to 8 Music Theory exams

Candidates can take these exams at Public Venues provided by us or at Private Visits at an approved venue provided by the applicant/Visit Organiser.

Practical exams include: Practical Grades, ARSM, Prep Test and Performance Assessment. Grade 6 to 8 Music Theory are paper-based exams. (Grades 1 to 5 are available as an online exam only.)

Remotely-assessed exams

These include Performance Grades and ARSM as well as Grades 1 to 5 Music Theory, which are only available as an online exam. Candidates can take these exams in a location of their own choice as long as this meets the requirements stated in the relevant guidelines.

Who can book an exam?

Anyone aged 18 or over can book exams on behalf of candidates. This could be a teacher, parent/carer or member of staff at a school, music service or other organisation. Candidates aged 18 and over can book their own exams. The person who books the exam is known as the applicant.

Ways to book

We have a new online booking service for graded exams, ARSM, Prep Test and Performance Assessment. We are unable to accept postal bookings for these assessments.

For DipABRSM, LRSM and FRSM diplomas, and Choral Singing and Ensembles exams, you will need to book by post. You can download entry forms here.
